The Planning Commission is tasked with numerous responsibilities, which encompass the mapping of the county, the evaluation of land development and subdivisions, as well as the orderly development of land. Furthermore, the commission collects and maintains detailed population and demographic data for the county, offering thorough information to prospective developers and the general public.

The Planning Commission undertakes and compiles a variety of studies related to environmental, economic, and general matters that influence the development of the county and its natural resources. Additionally, the commission is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of various public affairs, informational, and educational initiatives pertaining to county government. The jurisdiction of the Planning Commission encompasses the Bridge Department, the Department of Parks and Recreation, as well as flood control projects.
