The Department of Parks and Recreation is responsible for 5,500 acres of park land in Washington County, offering picnic shelters, nature trails, bicycle and bridle trails, hunting and fishing, as well as recreational programs, and special events. 

Lake

The Department is in charge of Mingo Creek, Cross Creek, and Ten Mile Creek County Parks, and the Washington County portion of the Panhandle Trail. All of the county parks are open all year long and house two covered bridges. Activities within these parks are controlled through a permit system. Parks and Recreation is responsible for maintenance of these parks.

Shelter Rentals
The Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation will begin accepting Shelter Reservations for the 2026 Season in Mingo Creek, Cross Creek and Ten Mile Creek County Parks at 9:00 am, Monday, January 12, 2026. 

On January 12th, shelter reservations will only be accepted online or by phone. To reserve a shelter online visit https://www.washingtoncopa.gov/parks-and-recreation. For those wishing to complete the process online, an account will need to be created prior to making a reservation. It is important to note, currently the Tyler system is not compatible with hand-held devices. 

Parks & Recreation Facility Rentals & Class Registration

To make a shelter reservation by phone, call the Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation at 724-228-6867. As in past years, we expect a high volume of phone calls, please be patient. Only shelter reservations will be accepted on Monday, January 12th, 2026.

Payment in full is due at the time of reservation.  

A reservation for shelter use is required and must be made at least 7 days in advance. 

On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation Office will resume normal daily office procedures. Shelter Reservations and all other 2026 Park Permits will be accepted. Cash, check or credit card payment will be accepted. Office hours are 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  

The following permits will not be available on-line in 2026:  

  • Boat Permits
  • Group Camping Area Permits
  • Metal Detecting Permits
  • Model Airfield Permits
  • Fall Wagon (Hay) Ride
  • Horseback Riding Permits
  • Commercial Photography Permits
